Standing With Naseema After Loss
When Naseema lost her husband during the pandemic, she was left to support four young children alone — with no income, an eviction threat, and nowhere to turn until Vimarsh's team arrived.
Naseema is a mother of four young children, the youngest just two years old. In September 2020, she lost her husband, who had worked as a driver and supported the family before the pandemic disrupted his income. Struggling to pay rent, he had taken a loan and faced mounting pressure from their landlord. After six months of strain, he suffered a fatal heart attack.
Naseema, who is uneducated and had rarely gone out alone before her husband’s death, was left grieving and isolated — under community customs, she could not leave her home for 40 days after his passing, and none of her relatives stepped in to help. With no income, the family soon had no food, and their landlord gave her a month’s ultimatum to leave the house.
A neighbour reached out to Vimarsh on Naseema’s behalf. Vimarsh’s team visited her home, provided emergency ration support, and spoke with the landlord, who agreed to reduce the rent until Naseema’s situation stabilised. Vimarsh also began working to find sponsors for her children’s education and helped link her to the Widow Pension Scheme.
“Vimarsh helped me when no one else was there,” Naseema said. With ongoing ration support in place, she is now able to start looking for work of her own.
